Proud makers of killbots, wi-fi routers
Back in the late 70s a modem manufacturer took a name inspired by the stories of Isaac Asimov, "US Robotics".
When the the movie "Bicentennial Man" was made in 1999 (based on the Asimov story from 1976) about a benevolent robot servant who gains his humanity, the real USR requested that the name of the fictional company (originally "US Robotics & Mechanical Men") not be used since it might somehow portray them in a negative light.
This year, another Asimov inspired movie, "I, ROBOT", uses the US Robotics name for the the company that produces the homicidal robot servants who run amok. This time USR are happy to associate themselves with their namesake, almost to the point of accepting it as (free?) product placement.
Personally, I'd be interested to see if the movie has any affect on Roomba manufacturers iRobot Corporation - who presumably thought it wise not to demand the movie change its name.
